Petrol (95 E5) averaged €1.724 a litre across Spain on Sunday 1 November, while diesel averaged €1.897. The figures are based on prices reported by filling stations to the Ministry for Ecological Transition.

The calculations cover 10,867 reported petrol prices and 11,201 diesel prices.

Provincial price comparisons

Málaga province, including the Costa del Sol, recorded averages of €1.761 a litre for petrol and €1.941 for diesel. Both were above the national averages.

In Alicante province, which includes the Costa Blanca, petrol averaged €1.759 a litre and diesel €1.906, also above the national figures.

The lowest provincial petrol average was €1.526 a litre in Las Palmas. The highest was €1.821 in the Balearic Islands.

A 55-litre petrol fill would cost about €16.22 more at the Balearic average than at the Las Palmas average.

Fuel prices in the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla are lower partly because those territories have different tax treatment of fuel.

The figures are averages, rather than a single price charged at every forecourt. Stations can change their prices at any time.
