Oral Wegovy is now sold by prescription in Spain, but the public health system does not cover it. Each box has 30 tablets and costs €179.89 to €236.20, depending on dose. In a 64-week trial, the 25mg group lost 16.6% of their starting weight on average, against 2.8% with placebo.

The Council of Ministers has approved a decree extending food rules to hospitals, residential centres, nurseries and other public canteens. It caps pre-cooked portions, sets menu and fresh-produce standards, and regulates vending and coffee machines. Reports do not specify an application date or give an exemptions list.

WHO has reported the first documented human case of Shamonda virus in France. An older man with a weak immune system died on 8 October after severe brain inflammation. Nine people became ill after eating razor clams at a Camp de Tarragona restaurant in September. Tests found norovirus in two frozen batches, and Catalan health authorities say they traced the distribution chain and withdrew the product. Blood donation centres in Toledo, Madrid and Málaga saw a surge after the Urda rail crash, with many people donating for the first time. Castilla-La Mancha officials say the immediate need related to the collision is covered, but transfusions are required every day and donations should continue over coming weeks. Madrid recorded more than 8,300 donations after the crash, while Málaga collected 400 bags on an extra-opening day.
