EU-UN system issues red alert for cyclone affecting India
GDACS estimates that 1.506 million people were exposed to winds of at least 120 km/h. Its alert gives no toll or account of damage.
The EU-UN disaster alert system has issued a red alert for cyclone MURASU-26, which affected India from 1 to 3 November 2026. Its record puts peak winds at 157 km/h.
The Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System, known as GDACS, estimates that 1.506 million people were exposed to strong winds. The figure covers areas with winds of at least 120 km/h.
That is an estimate of people in the storm’s path. It does not give a death toll or measure the damage caused.
GDACS places the storm in the North Indian basin. It lists India as the affected country and rates its vulnerability as high.
The system is run by the European Commission and the United Nations. Its red alert signals that help from abroad is likely to be needed.
The alert record gives no account of damage, deaths or action by Indian officials. It does not say what effects the storm had on travel.
