A six-year-old child has died in hospital after an arson attack on a home in Waterford city on 13 October. The child’s family confirmed the death in a statement carried by thejournal.ie.

The fire broke out in the Birchwood area on 13 October. Four members of the family died: the child’s parents and two of their sons, thejournal.ie reported.

Two other children were badly hurt and taken to hospital. One has now died from those injuries at Children’s Health Ireland in Crumlin, the family said.

The other injured child remains in hospital. The family asked people to keep that child in their thoughts.

Relatives said the latest death had brought more grief to family, friends and neighbours. They thanked those who had offered help and support since the fire.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána, Ireland’s police service, expressed sympathy for the wider family.
